DOE Awards $100 Million for Innovative Energy Research, Harvard One of Grant Recipients

The Department of Energy recently announced the awarding of $100 million for Energy Frontier Research Centers (EFRCs) meant to accelerate scientific breakthroughs needed to build a 21st-century energy economy.

The 32 projects receiving funding were competitively selected from more than 200 proposals. Twenty-three of the projects receiving funding are headed by universities, eight are led by the Energy Department’s National Laboratories and one project is run by a non-profit organization. Harvard was one of the universities selected for an EFRC called Integrated Mesoscale Architectures for Sustainable Catalysis {IMASC}, which focuses on understanding the chemical reactivity of complex structures to enable the design of catalysts for some of the most energy-consuming industrial chemical processes.
